... wow. That subject line is just... meh. Imma leave it *snerk*.

So, I've now seen Alexander and A Home at the End of the World, and I can no longer claim that I've never seen a Colin Farrell movie. t, Jess, Fiercy- I hope you're proud *blames*.

Alexander I was actually surprised with how much I didn't dislike what you were given in the movie- my main piss off was how much you weren't given. There was SO MUCH they could have done with that movie, they had the cast, they had the talent, the money, the location, the frickin' elephants. And the fact that they cut out the emotional center of the movie crippled it. I'm not saying anything that anyone who watched it a kazillion years didn't already know, but still.

A Home at the End of the World solidifies my point that Colin Farrell needs a clause in his contract that says no more doofy wigs. Like, ever. He is way too pretty to let them keep doing that to his head- it's just wrong. And good lord *sob*. Good movie. Might be a long time before I watch it again, but I was really impressed.

Next up, I have Phone Booth, Gia, A Slipping Down Life, The Hours and The English Patient. Right. Okay, so... by the time I'm done watching seventeen sad assed movies in a row, can someone please ping me until it annoys me enough that I take my head out of the oven long enough for y'all to... tell me to keep my head out of the oven? Or- even better...

Rec me your favorite movies! Happy, funny, ones your favorite actor/pup/whatever is in, whatever- but for every sad movie I get rec'd, I need at LEAST two happy or funny ones.

Oh, and PS? It's 6am, and it's already 38C, with humidity (100F). *cries*

ahh Colin Farrell is a better actor than he's given credit for, but still not that good.

I thought he played sweetness really well in a home at the end of the world. I thought he was good, but the hair! there was a lot of hair acting in that movie, Robin Wright Penn is a fab actor, but they changed her characters age by her hair.

Alexander annoys me because it could have been so many things, but it was sort of a bit of this and a bit of that. It felt like the worlds longest movie preview y'know? I kept expecting the clip show to stop and the real movie to start any minute.

have you seen elephant? that is my current fave that and apollo 13.

He's definitely a better actor than he's given credit for- I think I still want to see him in a few more things, but I watched Phone Booth and that was really damned good. I was totallly impressed by that movie.

And oh. Dear. Lord. Movies with hair acting *shakes head* That'll pull me out of a movie faster than anything because you know- they really can do great things with wigs these days. Yes, yes they can. So why do some people still end up looking like someone shaved a cat and glued it to the top of their head. Just ridiculous.

I think I really agree with you on Alexander. What they gave you, it was all right- I didn't find it terrible, except that I was always always aware of what it could have been and what it was missing. And that nakred me off after awhile.

Elephant I've never seen, or heard of- Apollo 13 I saw in theatre when the AH was still the Academic Boyfriend... such a good film.

Elephant is a gus van sant (van saint? I should know that but I just woke up he also made my own private idaho and last days) it's based around a school shooting, and critisim's of it are it is slow and meandering and exploitative and difficult so of course i liked it.

I love Apollo 13 which is the best movie ron howard has ever made (Ron Howard as a general rule makes my skin crawl with his treacle). Also Lee and I both have total actor crushes on Gary Sinese - have you seen his version of Of Mice and Men?

I think Colin Farrell can bring incredible intensity to his roles, but his RL antics make me go ew. But he's great in Phone Booth, and I loved what he did as Bullseye in Daredevil (despite it being a stupid movie).

Gia! That has Scott Cohen in it, an intense actor I love unreservedly. For great Scott and a happy movie, get The 10th Kingdom miniseries. In that vein, I like fairytale and fairytale-ish stories, so The Princess Bride, The Price of Milk (OMG Karl Urban, plus Harry Sinclair's commentary!), Ever After, Amelie, Edward Scissorhands, Jack and the Beanstalk: The Real Story... Happy happy!

I think it was the RL antics that kept me from watching any of his stuff before- it's happened to me with other actors, although I try to just enjoy the pretty and go 'la la la' to the nonsense. But I decided to cut Colin a break, because he just kinda says and does what a lot of people would say and do if they had the balls for it- he's a guy who wants to cuss his head off, smoke twenty packs of cigarettes a day and fuck. Like, a lot. Only person he's potentially hurting is himself, and from what I've read and heard, when he works, he shows up and he does his job and he does it well. That's all I require from an actor. Plus, he's sweet to his momma, and that makes me go awww.

I still have not seen The Price of Milk. This despite having written how much stuff with Harry and Karl and playing Harry in an RPG for almost two years! I've never lived in a city where I could get it, and even now that I have Canflix, they don't have it! I just have to suck it up and find it online, methinks.

Yeah, Russell Crowe's another one I say great talent, no thanks offscreen. I'm trying to get to the point where they won't put me off seeing a movie, but it's hard.

The Price of Milk is wonderful! I ended up getting off Amazon -- so hard to find in brick-and-mortar.
