I still can't sleep even though the boy is here, although that has more to do with having slept an obscene amount during the day yesterday. So it's 6am and I'm still awake and that's just WRONG, seriously.

But, at least I finally got something accomplished. I got... okay, I need to backtrack a little.

This past fall, I got to co-direct a play that the drama teacher at one of the high schools wrote. He and I've got a great working relationship, which is seriously awesome, and he wanted some input into the spring production. Long story short, we're putting on Romeo and Juliet.

I could not be more giddy about this if I'd just drank ten cans of Pepsi in a row. I have always, always wanted to get to direct this show. Always. I have a deep and abiding love for Romeo and Juliet, and I've been dreaming of getting to do it in a high school since back when I was in university. I even did a proposal for how to put it together, and the fact that it's actually happening, it's just... wow. So much wow.

We cast the show just before Christmas so the kids could go home over the holidays and read the play and get an idea of what would be going on, and come next week, we start rehearsals. But, that meant me cutting the script down to a performable length, plus changing all the pronouns since I gender swapped a LOT of the characters. Benvolio, Tybalt, the Friar, and the Prince are all being played by women. So is one of the Balthasars (the show is double cast), and one of the Peters.

Oh, and Romeo has two mommies in this version. This was largely due to an utter lack of any men that I could cast as Montague who weren't already needed in another role. But, I had a few girls who had the necessary power to be the head of a household, so... yeah. There's Montague, and Lady Montague, and Romeo has two mommies.

So tonight, I finally finished editing the script down to size, and sent it to the primary director. I am exhausted, but giddy. And if there's anyone out there who's really familiar with Shakespeare in general and Romeo and Juliet in particular and you wouldn't mind scanning through for pronoun-change errors and 'what the fuck did you do here?' issues for how I've cut up the script... well, that would be really awesome, actually, 'cause I did most of this at 3 am and afterward and I'm not entirely sure I didn't just create mass blasphemy. More than I already did with my girl Tybalt and Romeo and his two mommies.

Oh my god I'm tired. BED.

ROFL at the script! Yeah, I remember fighting for enough guys to be in drama in high school. Still, I'm giggling over Romeo having two mommies. Break many legs with it!

And good luck with the bed thing, too! *hugs*

We always have never enough guys, but in this case it was really just the right casting for us. I'm terribly happy about it though, even if it meant that I didn't get to do my thing with Tybalt being a boy with a massive crush on Romeo.
