Just for the night and today, though. My mom had surgery on her thyroid this week--not a really big deal, and she's been waiting for it for MONTHS, just hanging on for them to find time to book the operation--and she's off for a few days, and my dad wanted me to look after her while he went to town. She's recovering really well, except that she caught a horrible cold that didn't kick up into high gear until she was post-surgical. You want to have your throat operated on, then cough your guts out so hard you can't even breathe? Not so much. I've been doping her up with cough medicine with codeine, which is helping a little (and knocking her out, which is making her feel some better and at least getting her some rest).
I'm not really good with the medical stuff, so I'm pretty proud that I'm managing to help her out a bit without barfing over the side of her bed. It's really strange how they had to do the surgery--she's got an incision right across her neck, a few inches up from her collar bone. Basically it looks like someone tried to slash her throat, and she lived to tell the tale. Pretty nasty, really. Especially the part where I have to clean the incision and put polysporin on it so it doesn't infect. But I managed.
In other stuffs, I just finished up my first week of work in almost two years. I really hadn't realized it had been that long until I sat down and did the math, but yeah. Just about. I was hired as a casual (temp) employee with the clerical department for the school district, and I spent last week doing mornings in an elementary school library, and afternoons doing secretarial nonsense for the International Student department (basically a lot of filing and easy data entry). It's dead easy, and it pays well, but it's almost embarrassing how damned tired I get sometimes, considering that it's really not that hard. But it's been a long time since I've done this sort of thing, getting up at normal people hours and being out all day. Incidentally, I think seven AM should be OUTLAWED.
Everything else is pretty well okay. I owe meme responses still from the personal canon meme, and I'm getting to them--anyone else who wants to ask me questions about my personal canon for anyone from my fic, RPGing, or fandoms, go ahead--I really am going to answer them soon! And post things and about seventeen other things that I may or may not get to. I can try!
