The interview...

...went pretty well, I think. The drive out to Stratford was beautiful- London is such a grimy city a lot of the time, and it was just nice to see fields and countryside. It really reminded the AH of Saskatchewan... maybe that's why he dragged me out here. Knew he couldn't get me to move to actual Saskatchewan, so he found it's Ontario equivalent.
We got there in less than an hour, over 40 minutes before I was due for the interview, and had less trouble finding the building than I expected, so we went for Tim Hortons (just when you thought this entry couldn't get anymore classically Canadian *snort*).
The interview itself was fine. I was interviewed by four women (I have definitely never been interviewed by a team that size before, so that was an entirely new experience) for over half an hour. I think I did pretty well, it's just all going to come down to whether what I am is what they're looking for.
The job itself is a bit more administrative than I was thinking it would be- my position (Production assistant) is a liason to the production team, director, stage managers, and actors, and streamlines paperwork through all of those areas, not to mention answering the phone, being general 'I can take care of that' girl, and, apparantly, fetching coffee. Might want to actually learn to make it...
The hours... erk. A lot more than I was expecting they would be. It's contract work, so a base salary of $500 a week, 6 days a week, general working day from 9-6:30, 'though in crunch time, could be anything like 8-8. And believe me- for theatre? A twelve hour day is nothing.
So... I don't know. I think I did pretty well, overall, and if I get it, I'm almost positively decided that I will take it, but it will mean a pretty massive change of lifestylefrom me being a lazy bastard for me in general. Plus, it's not like I'm an insomniac by choice, and the idea of not sleeping, and having to get up and drive in potentially horrific weather (we do live in the snow belt after all) does make me pretty nervous. But that's not a reason not to take the job.
There were a couple spots during the interview where I got a bit unsure- they really seemed to want people who were very definitely interested in pursuing stage management as a career... and I'm still on the fence. Part of me very much still wants to teach high school, but that's not something I can do while we're here, due to how complicated transferring an education degree between provinces is in Canada. So I had to shine it on a bit more than I really felt like in terms of saying 'yes- absolutely, this is the career for me, no question, no hesitation' than I really would have liked to.
So... I'm on the fence. I think it would be a brilliant opportunity, and I think I'd be glad I took it if I did it. It would mean a level of work that I've not done in quite some time, 'though I'm sure I can rise to it once I get going again.
I'll hear back from them by the middle of November at the latest, so hopefully by then, I'll actually have decided for certain if it's what I want to do while I'm here in London.
And have learned to make coffee.
