Some of that's my fault. I slept in too late on Saturday, which led itself to being up way too late (say, seven am) on Sunday, then only getting 4 hours sleep before waking up again, but ugh. So. Tired. And this is going to be a hell of a week at work, then I've got a weekend of wedding and wedding related events, a baby shower one night this week that I haven't even considered what to get for the mom as a present (my sister in law), work is going to be batshit fucking insane all week 'cause I've got 65 Colombians in town to contend with, and to top it all off, we're moving in just over two weeks.

Oh yeah. You all wish you had my life, don't you?

We went to look at the place we're moving into, which also happens to be the duplex that I lived in from when I was six to ten, after which we moved to the other side of the duplex for 3 years, since my Nana and Grandpa owned the entire thing and were moving into the side we were in. My aunt bought it from my Nana when my Nana got a condo, and then when my aunt got remarried, she moved into his house, and my cousins stayed in the duplex. Well, not just them. Them, their significant whatsists (they're all in their early 20's), and their friends.

The place? Is TRASHED. The walls are banged up, the carpet looks toxic, every wall is painted a different colour... my aunt and my new uncle who we're renting from were just PISSED. Which, y'know, good for us 'cause it means that they're gonna clean the hell out of it before they turn it over to us because they find it embarrassing. It also works out really, really well because they're going to give us keys as soon as they steam clean the carpets in the basement, and then we can start moving our shit out of here as soon as possible, by which I mean, the end of this week. Just into a corner in the basement, but it'll make the actual day of the move, which will be in the middle of the week, so much easier. I think I'm gonna have to take the day off work though. We'll see, but... yeah. It's gonna be rough.

I hate moving. We've moved every 20 months or less--usually a lot less, like 4-6 months--since I went to university when I was eighteen. So, over eleven years. I've totally lost count. But I hate it. I hate packing, I hate cleaning, I hate tripping over boxes, and I really, really, REALLY hate unpacking. But I'm really glad we're moving. I really hate where I'm living now, and we're moving to a place that's a lot bigger, actualy has more than one bathroom, and is just... better. Once they get it cleaned up anyway. Plus? Yard, and a huge playground/park. Know what that means? DOG. Dog, dog, dog, dog, dog. Poor AH. I am such a trial to him. So in roughly 2 weeks, I'll be all moved in, and then just the unpacking. Joy oh joy. But it'll be okay.

In other news:

- I've updated the [livejournal.com profile] jay_bean journal here, if you're following things along there, but not friended.

- I'm so far loving all of my shows that I'm watching this season. I'm a ridiculously easy fangirl to please, and I enjoyed last season of Supernatural and Heroes, so I'm not surprised that I'm liking this season too. I'm still a very laid back fangirl, but I might try and post fannish related things more often.

- The AH officially decided not to continue his doctoral studies, and I'm glad he made the decision. You really can't know until you're immersed in the world of higher academia whether it's where you want to be or not, which is kind of a bitch because it's not like choosing to leave a job, where it's seen as just a change in career path. People see it as quitting. I don't, partly because I just don't, and partly because he passed his comps. As far as I'm concerned, that proves anything he may have needed to prove. So he's now teaching high school, writing in his spare time (or will be once we move), and a much, much happier creature. Which is all that matters to me.

doctoral studes are odd in that people always assume it is about the job, but it's really about the work. Lee is pretty uch done with philosophy, once this contract is over, it's on to something new. And people don't understand, they think that makes those five years a waste, but he was working ans studying and doing somehing he loved, how can that be a waste?

I see it the same way too. AH loved his time doing his Masters, and I don't think the pursuit of knowledge is ever a waste, whether you end up being doctor academic husband or not. He couldn't deal with the academic publish or perish world... he was interested in teaching at a higher level. And most people really don't realize that university is not teaching focused.

I just want him to find something that he feels truly passionate about.

*breathes into paper bag* I'm about done with stress, you know? I don't think it's doing me any good.

Good luck with the move, hon. And with getting sleep!

And from another who "quit" grad school, I wholeheartedly support AH - if he's decided he doesn't want to do it anymore, he shouldn't. Whatever makes him happy is the most important!

Sleep? What is this thing called sleep?

And yeah--I don't like the word "quit" for it, because it just carries different implications that no one thinks about when a person moves on to just another job. If it wasn't for him, he shouldn't invest any more money and time and energy in it. And I think it took balls to make that decision.
